In 2021, Surf Anywhere has created river surfing safety sign imagery to educate, encourage better decisions, and reduce accidents. The three signs are for:
Leashes
Entrapments
Shallow rivers
The signage is free to use and we will provide the high resolution images on request at no cost. The signs conform to current USA safety sign standards. If used, please credit Surf Anywhere and send pictures of the signs in use.
Sign imagery was funded and developed by Surf Anywhere with feedback from Alberta River Surfing Association community members, Colorado River Surfers community members, River Surf Ottawa-Gatineau (RSOG) / Surf de rivière Ottawa-Gatineau (SROG) community members, and others.
Surf Anywhere developed the first leash safety sign in 2017, after identifying leash death as one of the primary river surfing hazards via the River Surfing Accident & Incident Database, Surf Anywhere developed the sign to help reduce leash death. The first photo is from the Bend Surf Park courtesy of their Wave Technician, Ryan Ricards. Ryan says the signage is improving leash safety and making people aware of the dangers. The second photo is from the Cunovo wave in Bratislave, Slovakia.
