The Alberta River Surfing Association first put on a Surf Slam at the Kananaskis in 2006 making it the first river surfing event in the world outside of Munich Germany. In 2008 the surf features in the Kananaskis were destroyed. Slam the Kan then became a major fundraiser for the Alberta River Surfing Association (Alberta RSA) to build new and better waves. The Alberta RSA formed a partnership with Surf Anywhere for the event’s organization and execution. The event included a non competitive surf slam for many years and recently add a competitive element to push the level of athleticism in the sport. The Slam Festival maintains the non competitive roots with Surf Slam style programming such as the team surf category. Surf Anywhere has used the ten years of river surf event experience when consulting on other river surfing competitions and events.
